VACUUM BOOSTERS

Vacuum brake boosters, made since 1995.

The largest of our four families, and the one the factory was built around. A vacuum booster multiplies pedal force using the pressure difference between engine manifold vacuum (or a vacuum pump) and atmosphere, acting on one or two diaphragms before the master cylinder.

How they are specified

Single-diaphragm and tandem (dual-diaphragm) layouts, sized by shell diameter and boost ratio. The numbers that actually decide fitment are output pushrod length, shell diameter, mounting stud pattern and vacuum port orientation — two units that look identical can differ on any of them.

What we test before packing

Every booster goes on a characteristic tester: idle seal, seal below the boost point, seal above the boost point, and the full input-to-output force curve, judged automatically against preset limits. The bench and a saved readout are published on our About page.

How to search this family

Start with the reference number stamped on the unit you are replacing. Identify what kind of number it is first — vehicle-maker OE numbers, aftermarket brand numbers and casting marks all appear on brake castings and behave differently in a search.
